Amazon Black Out March 7-14 Boycott

No shopping with Amazon or using any of their other services March 7-14!
You can do it :black_heart: Shop Local!

Remember, perfection is the enemy of progress! Obviously it's best to avoid Amazon (even beyond this boycott), but if you find that you forgot or needed to use one or more of these services don't throw the baby out with the bath water!

Alternatives:

  • Grocers:
    • Kitsap Community Food Coop (You don't have to be a member to shop there! Full disclosure, I'm a board member)
    • Vulca's Mediterranean Market
    • Midtown Market
  • Books
    • Kitsap Library!
    • Ballast Books
    • Goodwill - Definitely has its own problems
  • Media
    • PIRACY! I mean be careful, but honestly Or maybe just support some smaller artists
    • Kitsap Library or University libraries if you or someone you know attends-especially if they have a film department. I saved SO much money in my undergrad borrowing Stargate and Game of Thrones rather than streaming
    • Support a local theater. I personally avoid Seefilms as I've seen too many extreme, right-wing movies for my liking (e.g., What is a woman). Don't forget live theater like Enoch City or Bremerton Community Theater
    • Go see a live show. The Manette Saloon and The Charleston always have live music, as do a bunch of other venues (not trying to not shout anyone out, those two just pop into my mind
    • In the summer, Music in Manette is my jam! Bring a folding chair, maybe a snack, smuggle in some hooch-but don't cause a scene, and enjoy some local music with a great view!
  • Other stuff
    • Check out 1st Friday on 3/7 in Manette, Callow Ave, Lebo Ave, or downtown Bremerton! Go find a Heavy Jeens poster :)
    • Seriously walk around your town! There are so many cool views and area, get out of the house. Be safe, but make the cars stop for you. You're a pedestrian, you have a right of way. I personally like to walk the waterfronts of Manette and downtown Bremerton

Also, I'd be remiss if I didn't say how fun typing this has been using HTML formatting... what is this the late 90s?!

Marquee was always my favorite HTML tag! Let's see if it works

Lame, <.marquee> doesn’t appear to work

Yes, thanks for this list @F.R.O.G.Soap. I was actually thinking of putting together a neocities (like geocities) list of alternatives just like this for supporting small local spots. Something that could also be printed out and turned into a zine! The whole idea for this forum came out of the 1-day Boycott on the 28th and wanting to continue the action.

I love the idea of neocities! I've been kicking around making a hand drawn map with my favorite local places since we get out-of-towners shopping a lot in store. Maybe one day I'll get to it; until then it's on the ever growing list of things to do!

This map sounds like a great idea for folks who also live here and don’t know what is around. I love your idea.

I just saw someone posted this list of local places to shop in Bremerton/Kitsap! I would love to work on a collaborative zine with all this info if anyone wants in? @erika @F.R.O.G.Soap @GraySkies

Maybe at a Crafternoon?

Everyone is welcome to use the Hazelwood library at Olympic College! You don’t have to be a student, and community members can even get a library card and check stuff out.
